Duplicate Bridge » Eight Ever - Nine Never

Bridge Terms

Odds On  A good bet. Bidding or playing in such a manner because the odds favor your making it even though once in a while you'll fail miserably.

Partnership Agreement  Discussions you and partner have regarding what certain bids mean and your defensive signals and opening lead conventions.

Eight Ever, Nine Never  A nursery rhyme that is supposed to tell you whether to drop or finesse an opponent's honor when you have 8 or 9 cards in the suit. Much better is to think back to the bidding (or lack of), the opening lead and clues gained when opponents play and discard.

Sissy Bid  A tentative bid on either offense or defense, especially when it comes to slams or not preempting high enough.
