East 1D 2D Pass |
South 1H Pass Pass |
West 2C 4H! |
North Pass Pass |
East nearly fell off their chair when they heard West bid 4H. But they looked at their hand and they had 4 Hearts with 2 honors, so how bad could this contract be? As dummy was tabled, the bidding was discussed and West realized it was South who had bid the Hearts, not East.
West thought East had 5 Hearts to open 1H and so West only needed 3 for their raise to game. South wisely decided not to double lest the opponents mentally review the bidding and discover their error. South held 5 Hearts of course so down four it was.
