Bridge Match Points Story |
 |
That's Up There
  |
Playing match points, West opened a strong 2 Spades, and East responded 3 Diamonds. West rebid Spades, East rebid Diamonds, and following a Blackwood sequence they settled for 5 Spades, admitting they were missing 2 Aces.
As South I held  --  x  Axx  Jxxxxxxxx.  They were vulnerable and we were not so I decided to sacrifice at 6 clubs which they of course Doubled. Partner had  xxx  KQxxxx  xx  Ax.
West led the Ace of hearts, an obvious singleton, and then attempted to reach her partner with a Spade, which I ruffed. I led a Club to Dummy's Ace, the King and Queen fell! I cashed Dummy's K and Q of Hearts, discarding my 2 Diamond losers, and claimed.
