Bidding the Blackwood Convention Blackwood is used when you and partner have chosen a trump suit and think that you also have enough points to bid a small or large slam. The only thing holding you back is if you are missing an Ace or two. A bid of 4NT after a trump suit has been agreed upon is Blackwood "Asking for Aces". It is an artificial bid, not a true notrump bid. Partner responds in 'code': 5C = 0 or all 4 Aces 5D = 1 Ace 5H = 2 Aces 5S = 3 Aces Partner can now bid 5NT to ask you for Kings. 6C = 0 or all 4 Kings 6D = 1 King 6H = 2 Kings 6S = 3 Kings This can really help you reach slam can't it!
